Skin and Intestinal Cleanse

Here are the beginning level detoxification practices for the skin and intestinal tract, to begin implementing into your life over the coming week.  Each one of these practices is crucial for overall health and wellbeing.  The colon cleanse formulas are only necessary if you suffer from chronic constipation, or have a bowel movement less than 2 times a day, on average.  

Below is an overview of the processes involved, followed by a detailed description of each process.  Each of the specific brands of supplements that I recommend can be found under the “Skin and Intestinal Cleanse” category of the Nutritional Products page of my website


–Saunas or Epsom salt baths 3-4 times a week

-Bentonite Clay and psyllium husks (24 ounce bag) 3-4 days at a time, with 3-4 days off during the week.

-Skin Brushing – Best to do daily

-Colon Cleanse Formula –Follow the directions on the bottle (only to be performed if you experience constipation and have a bowel movement less than 2 times a day, on average).

-Supplements For Support–you may find it beneficial to increase your intake of MSM, vitamin C, and the Jarrow Mushroom optimizer for immune system support through the detoxification process.


Saunas and Epsom Salt Baths

Both of these practices have the same goal: to pull toxins from the lymph tissues and subcutaneous layers of fat within your skin.  The body stores heavy metals and other toxins in fatty tissue, much of it in the fat beneath the layers of the skin.  Heat opens up pores and sweating expels toxins through the pores and out of the body.  Infrared saunas are preferable, but if you do not have access to a sauna, then an epsom salt bath will do, and is considered by many to be just as potent a detoxifier as saunas.  For Sauanas, stay in for 15 minutes at a time, for multiple rounds, 3-4 times a week, being sure to drink plenty of water, as well as being sure to get adequate salt and mineral supplementation.
For the Epsom salt bath, put 2 cups of epsom salt into a hot bath and soak for 15-30 minutes at a time, 3-4 times a week.  Be sure to get adequate hydration, as well as proper amounts of salt and mineral supplementation.  Epsom salts can be bought in bulk at any drug store.  Walmart has a 3 lb bag for around $6.  If you are dealing with any topical fungal infections (yeast infection, jock itch, or toe fungus) then try adding a cup of baking soda to the bath as well.  You may find that a combination of sauna and epsom salt bath are most effective for drawing toxins out of the body.

Bentonite Clay and Psyllium Husks

One of the most effective ways to begin cleaning the intestinal tract, as well as pull toxins from your body is through the use of bentonite clay.  Combined with psyllium husks (which help to loosen mucoid plaque on the intestinal walls and move it through the intestines) bentonite clay can remove a lot of blocked fecal matter from the gut.  Bentonite clay is best taken early in the morning on an empty stomach, accompanied by lots of water.  It is best not to eat any food or other supplements for an hour after the clay.  Start with 1-2 teaspoons of the clay a day, and then gradually increase over time.  Take  bentonite clay for 3-4 days at a time, without 3-4 days off.  Add 1 tablespoon of psyllium husks to the bentonite clay in a jar with a lid, shaking the mixture vigorously in water to dissolve.  Be sure there is enough water so that the liquid is quite runny and easy to drink.  Follow by drinking another full glass of water.  There are some specific instructions to get the most out of bentonite clay, which can be found at the following article,

Skin Brushing

Skin brushing is an ancient technique that has been used in numerous cultures around the world.  The technique involves lightly massaging and scrubbing your skin with a skin brush in order to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the lymphatic system.  Between 20 and 30% of toxins are stored in the lymphatic system at any given time, and by lightly brushing the skin, it aids in releasing the toxins from the skin.  It is best to skin brush right before a shower, or during a shower.  You may experience less irritation by skin brushing dry, versus in the shower.  Spend about five minutes a day covering the entirety of your body with the brush.  This aids in the detoxification of the skin tremendously and should not be overlooked.


Colon Cleanse Herbal Formula

For those who experience constipation on a regular basis, or have to strain during a bowel movement, it may be necessary to do a 1-2 week colon cleanse.  The herbs in the colon cleanse will help induce peristalsis, the muscular contractions lining the intestinal wall which help move waste matter through the gut.   Dr Christopher’s colon cleanse is one of the better colon cleansing products on the market at a super affordable price.  This formula contains Aloe, Cascara Sagrada Bark, Garlic Bulb, Senna Leaves, Ginger Root, Barberry Bark and Cayenne (90,000 H.U.) in an all vegetarian Capsule. Dr. Christopher believed that most diseases started by the accumulation of impurities in the lower bowel, there are too many ailments to list which can be treated by cleansing the lower bowel with this formula.  Follow the instructions on the bottle.
