To successfully make changes in your life, it can be very helpful to have a clear intention and understanding of why you want to make these changes, as well as to be realistic about what the changes entail. Creating a solid foundation to begin making changes in your life is essential for successfully adopting a new way of living.
To do the following exercises, you will need about 1-2 hours, a comfortable chair, your healing journal and a pen, and perhaps a cup of tea. For each of the following sections, write your responses to the questions posed, giving yourself time to reflect before immediately answering each question. After you are finished, make the necessary preparations and changes in your life, your home and work environment, as well as in your relationships, in order to support your healing process.
Clear Intention and Desire
It is extremely helpful to clarify why you want to heal, and to really tune into the desires of your Heart for healing. Write out in your healing journal why you desire to be healthy by answering the following questions.
Q–What kinds of emotional experiences would you like to have once you have returned to exceptional health?
Q--How will you live your life when you are fully healed and full of energy?
Q–How will you share your positive energy with those whom you love?
–Spend 10-20 minutes imagining this healthy version of you, living your life in a way that feels inspiring and uplifting. See yourself in your imagination living the vibrant life that your Heart desires, sharing in these uplifting experiences with those around you. As you visualize, write down words, images, or thoughts that come to you during this process in your healing journal.
You can repeat this process many times to fine-tune or hone the vision, so that it feels the most in alignment with your Heart’s desires. The notes that you take during this process are to be used later for reference, during times when you may feel overwhelmed or confused during your healing journey.
Having a positive attitude, and utilizing specific tools and techniques to maintain a positive outlook, will allow you to move through challenges and obstacles during the process of healing. It is extremely helpful to understand how the ego operates (to be addressed in following modules), which will allow you to better choose positivity and love in the face of challenges. Using positive affirmations such as, “I am healthy, I am healed, I am whole,” or, “I choose love and good health,” or even just using one word to refocus your attention on the present moment, such as “Breathe,” can be a wonderful aid in staying focused and positive.
–Take the time to write out a few positive affirmations that you can use to increase the positive energy in your life as you go through the healing journey. These affirmations can also be used in the event that you feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or uncomfortable during your healing journey. When choosing a positive affirmation, choose a statement that feels good to say, that you actually believe, and is something that you will realistically say to yourself in challenging times. Write these statements in your healing journal, and reference them when needed.
Making the commitment to yourself to heal is also very powerful during this process. When we enter into a new experience with hesitation or reservations, this sends the message that we may not be ready for these changes. Once you decide that you are ready to take your health into your own hands, be confident in your commitment with yourself to follow through with these dietary and energy practices. Yes, you may slip up from time to time, but if you hold your head up high, with a commitment to always do your best for yourself and your health, then you will have an attitude of inner strength, and you will feel better equipped to overcome any challenges that you may face.
Take the time now to write out a statement of commitment to yourself for your healing journal. It may be as simple as, “I commit to honoring myself fully by nourishing and healing my body to the best of my ability.” This statement can also double as a positive affirmation, and can be repeated each morning when you wake up, or in the evening before bed.
It is important to create an environment that is conducive to your journey of healing. Taking the time to talk with your family and friends, letting them know what your journey of healing will entail, can make a significant difference in the success of your healing process. Throughout the process be clear with your family about what foods you will be eating, and what foods you will no longer be eating. Plan ahead for meals, vacations, and family outings, so that you will not be in a position where you feel pressured to compromise on your dietary needs. When going out to dinner, for instance, look at the restaurant website ahead of time to be sure that there is something on the menu that you could eat. Before even committing to go out to dinner, ask yourself whether or not you are comfortable potentially asking your waiter or waitress for numerous dietary accommodations.
Take the time now to write some notes on areas in your life where you will have to pay extra attention, so as not to find yourself in a position that may cause you to not follow the diet. Also write out which friends and family members you will need to talk with about preparing your environment to be conducive to your healing journey.
Once you have completed these exercises, go back and reference them often as you progress on your healing journey. Having access to these notes in the futurel will help you maintain a positive and uplifting attitude during the healing journey. Feel free to revise these notes according to new information or insights about yourself and your healing journey that may come to you during the process of healing.
